Bulgogi - Korean style BBQ Beef Recipe

Bulgogi

Bulgogi is a popular Korean dish made with thinly sliced marinated beef, usually cooked on a grill or a stovetop. It's known for its delicious sweet and savory flavors. Here's a traditional Bulgogi recipe along with the ingredients and cooking instructions:

Ingredients:

- 500 grams of beef (you can use ribeye, sirloin, or tenderloin)

- 1 pear, grated

- 1 onion, grated

- 4 cloves of garlic, minced

- 2 tablespoons of soy sauce

- 1 tablespoon of sesame oil

- 1 tablespoon of sugar

- 1 tablespoon of honey or corn syrup

- 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil

- 1 tablespoon of toasted sesame seeds

- 2 green onions, chopped (for garnish)

- Optional: 1 tablespoon of sesame oil for grilling

Instructions:

1. Slice the beef: Start by slicing the beef into thin, bite-sized pieces. It's easier to slice if the beef is partially frozen.

2. Prepare the marinade: In a bowl, combine the grated pear, grated onion, minced garlic, soy sauce, sesame oil, sugar, and honey (or corn syrup). Mix well until the sugar is dissolved and the marinade is well combined.

3. Marinate the beef: Place the sliced beef in a shallow dish or a ziplock bag. Pour the marinade over the beef, making sure all the slices are coated. Marinate the beef in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour, but overnight marination will result in even better flavor.

4. Heat a grill or a stovetop pan: Preheat a grill or a stovetop pan over medium-high heat. If using a grill, you can brush it with a little sesame oil to prevent sticking.

5. Cook the beef: Remove the beef from the marinade, shaking off any excess. Grill the beef in batches, turning occasionally, until it is cooked to your desired level of doneness. It usually takes about 2-3 minutes per side. If using a stovetop pan, you can cook the beef in a single layer without overcrowding the pan.

6. Optional: Baste with marinade: While grilling, you can baste the beef with some of the marinade to add more flavor and moisture.

7. Sprinkle with sesame seeds: Once the beef is cooked, transfer it to a serving plate and sprinkle with toasted sesame seeds.

8. Garnish and serve: Garnish the Bulgogi with chopped green onions. Serve it hot with steamed rice, lettuce leaves for wrapping, and other Korean side dishes like kimchi and pickled radishes.

Now you have a delicious Bulgogi ready to enjoy! It can be served as a main dish or used as a filling for Korean-style wraps (ssam). Enjoy the flavors of this classic Korean dish!
